Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire in Montreal's West Island is a tiny little town that is a bit sleepy. People unfamiliar with the term tend to think it's a separate island somewhere in the west of Montreal However, in reality this part of West Island is home to all things from Lachine west to the city of Lachine west. Many times, it is credited as being the place of birth for Amanda Brugel but while that may be true, her time there was short. Brugel became an aspiring young lady in Courtice Ontario, just outside Oshawa. Her early ambition was to become a dancer, but a growth spurt meant that she literally outgrew the dancers she was with. She admitted in an article that was published in The Toronto Star that she is 6'1" tall, even when she wears heels. When I surpassed any male partner and stopped dancing, I quit. Former dancers often turn into acting. In the instance of Brugel, it was an urging by her teacher in drama. The teacher recommended that she take part in an audition for the annual school production. After trying out the role, she was chosen as the lead actress in Anne of Green Gables. The show led her to receive the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship from York University. In 2000, she received her BA in Fine Arts at York University. Her career spans 20 years and she's appeared in 60 different productions including big screen productions and smaller ones. The most well-known role she played was that of Rita (pictured below) in the television show The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel played the role of Rita in the Handmaid's Tale the series filmed over ten years ago.
